Stellaris

Though I have a passing familiarity with the grand strategy games made by Paradox, I am not usually a big fan. They are way too big a time-sink and the complex systems they build don’t always hold together over the course of a long game. I find that trying to play to win these games in a conventional manner often ends up being a frustrating experience but treating them as a role-playing experience is often enjoyable. Plus their plethora of DLCs for every title is both annoying and confusing.

Sentinels of the Multiverse (Shattered Timelines)

It has been a long, long time since I last wrote about this game, so long indeed that the post was on my old blog. I only revisited this because I was curious about the video game adaptations of some of the board games I already know and so bought the Humble Bundle of board games. It also happened to include this mini-pack for Sentinels of the Multiverse and I didn’t want it to go to waste.

Dark Souls 3

So I guess Dark Souls really is my favorite game series because immediately after finishing the game I went back and rolled a new character which I never do for any games. Note that this is the main game only as I bought it a while back and haven’t bought the DLC yet. I’m sure to do so eventually of course but the thought of confronting even harder bosses feels rather intimidating right now as I found the bosses in this game significantly harder than the two previous games.

Superflight

In between playing the epic-sized games by big studios, I like to mess around with the small, indie ones. I have to say that while the big games are certainly more impressive both in terms of scope and production values, I usually find the small games to be more memorable due to how different and unique they tend to be. This tiny game is a case in point. I doubt that most people are going to play it for more than a handful of hours but it’s such a fun few hours different from anything else you might have played that it’s likely to stick in your mind for a long while.

Divinity: Original Sin (Enhanced Edition)

I’ve had this game on my to play list for the longest time, having it recommended to me by multiple parties and having heard about it all the way back to its Kickstarter campaign. As usual partly due to being a bit tired of epic RPGs, I’ve kept putting it off until now. Even while playing, I’ve made liberal use of online guides because I couldn’t be too bothered about learning the whole system.

Infinifactory (Resistance Campaign)

As previously promised, I went back to play Infinifactory’s Resistance Campaign or at least tried my best at them. Story-wise, this set of missions takes place after the end of the first campaign and as its title indicates, covers the efforts of the escaped engineers to create a resistance against the Overlords. It’s a fair bit shorter than the first set of puzzles but more than makes up for it with the large sizes of the puzzles and their bewildering complexity.

Dirt 4

About a year after gushing about Dirt Rally, I’m back playing the newer Dirt 4. As its title indicates this is a more mainstream title meant as the newest entry in the franchise and is therefore more accessible. However it does allow you to opt for either simulation or gamer levels of realism. Major improvements were made with the weather system, the damage model and a more complete career mode. In addition to rallying there are the rally cross and land rush events which will also be familiar to those who played the earlier titles of the series.
