Final set of renders

I keep saying I’m done with playing around with Blender but this will be my last set, at least for a while. I did the above scene for example because I’d always wanted to make a nice bathroom scene but this doesn’t really break any new ground for me and didn’t involve too much work at all. There’s still plenty of things for me to learn and Blender is moving very fast forward but it’s getting to be too much work for me to try to keep up. Plus I have other stuff I want to work on next.

Next up is my attempt to this forest tutorial from CG Geek. In my last round of renders, I had a hard time getting enough trees to properly fill out the background so I was very curious how he’d managed to get in a whole forest worth of them. It turns out that it’s just a simple matter of getting the poly count on each tree really low. Much of the magic here is from getting the lighting and angle just right which I rarely have the patience for.

Then I wanted to do something a little more difficult than usual and making renders of food feels like an interesting challenge. I had to experiment a bit for different techniques to model the durians efficiently and then create them in different levels of resolution. That part was kind of fun. What was less fun was making enough objects and clutter to fill out the background space. That was tedious work and I didn’t even do a good job of it.

Finally this one of the oldest and likely obsolete tutorial videos that Blender Guru has on making a sci-fi corridor scene. Again, nothing really new here for me except that he uses a very simple technique to fake mist. The interesting part is making all of the tiny sci-fi details on the wall panels and such, which again, is quite a bit of work. As Andrew Price notes, this is more of a challenge of art direction rather than technique. Modelling the various objects is easy but you need to know what to make. I suppose that’s where concept artists come in.

Anyway that’s it for this round of renders. There won’t be another one, at least for a little while as I move to learning other stuff. I’ve been learning Blender for a couple of years by now and it has been a lot of fun but I was never going to go professional or anything.
