“Three Little Pigs” Offensive

BBC News has an article on a ebook retelling of the classic “Three Little Pigs” children’s story meant for primary school children being turned down for a government award on the grounds that some might find it offensive. The judges thought that the ebook which was distributed on a CD-ROM might offend not only Muslims due to its use of pigs as characters but also construction labourers since, well, the pigs in the story build houses.

Needless to say, I find this to be an example of political correctness at its most ridiculous. Sometimes a pig is just a pig.

  1. Oh My Poking Goodness!!!!
This is just totally hilarious! LOL!

Sometimes a pig is just a pig.
I think this line of text can be interpreted in such a way that, it can be quite sarcastic. 😀

    Maybe that’s just me though.

    Good share, mate. 🙂

  2. He he he – you’ve got two entirely separate issues here. The first one is totally ridiculous, and I agree it’s PC extremism and infuriates me. However, your 2nd link about the MCA Guidebook is very funny, but I’m never comfortable laughing at something that is in fact based on a warning about potential rapists. Clever gag though;-D

  3. That would depend on whether or not the MCA actually believes in what they’re putting out. Instead of issuing a guidebook on the difference between real and fake mediums, they could have just put out a guidebook saying that all mediums are fake and I would have been happy. Anyway, it’s possible that the MCA doesn’t actually believe in mediums, but doesn’t want to offend people by saying that straight out. If they actually do, then they’re just pathetic.

  4. Another way to use Muslims in an anti-American way. Sorry we can’t recognize this all “American story” with an award because the terrorists might not like it… How does that make you feel America? (Slick)

As if a real Muslim would care about children’s stories and the use of animals… The don’t hate pigs, they just don’t EAT them do to the pig’s diet…

Construction workers are ashamed or bothered by other construction workers, fictional or non-fictional?? That doesn’t even qualify for a sensible reason.

This is just a ploy to bring more negative comments about Muslims in this country to build justification for our actions and ridiculous hate and stereotypes.

  5. Well, it’s an award sponsored by the British government, not the American one. While I agree with your sentiments that Muslims and construction workers won’t care about the fairy tale, I can’t agree that the judges made their decision as a calculated move to demonize Muslims. More likely, they’re just being too timid and too cautious.
